What is translation
The basic principle of translation is to change from one language (the source language) to another language (the target language), while keeping the same meaning and incorporating the nuances of the original text. The cultural background of the first language should be adapted to suit the target language, where appropriate.
Our Project Management
When a document is received from our customer we check the original document, ascertain the technical or scientific field concerned and then pass it to a translator specializing in that field, who can deliver a translation which is faithful to the original text from both the terminological and the linguistic point of view.
Pre-check
Before starting the translation, our project management team first read through the original document to pinpoint any doubts they may have about the translation (terminology, method to be used, etc.) in order to prevent any last minute problems. We keep very close contact with both the customer and the translator during the translation process. This communication is essential for us to ensure that the translation delivered is in accordance with our high standards.
Our team of translators
Technical Translation has a team of approved, highly specialized translators with whom we have been working for several years. All our translators translate into their native language and we only use them for work which falls within the confines of their special knowledge where we are certain that they are fully conversant with the field concerned. These two factors (the target language and the field of specialization) are the most important concepts which enable us to select the right translator.
For large projects, we set up a team of translators who work closely with our management to ensure that the translation provided to the customer is consistent as regards terminology, style, titles, page lay-out, etc. The translators are supervised by a Project Manager.
In addition, new translation memory software makes it easier to achieve consistent vocabulary. Translation memories are kept strictly up to date and passed to translators throughout the project, on a confidential basis.
Technical and Scientific Translation
A good translator needs to be able to keep up with the latest developments in his or her chosen field by visiting specialized exhibitions and carefully reading technical and professional journals. Our Technical Translation translators take care to develop their knowledge and follow the latest trends in the industrial, technical and scientific worlds in order to be able to produce up-to-the-minute translations, using the latest technical terminology.
Glossaries for each customer
Companies often use their own in-house technical vocabulary, so we set up technical language glossaries for each client, to ensure that the same terms are used in future translations. Wherever possible we use the same translator for a particular client. Our translators often specialize in only a few technological or scientific fields - usually because they themselves have working experience in that particular industry or science.
Translators with the right experience
The use of qualified people who have experience in mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, electrical or chemical engineering ensures that our technical translations are completely acceptable to the client. Translators who have first-hand experience in particular scientific fields also form some of our most welcome recruits.
Proof-Reading
Translation and proof-reading are closely connected. In addition to systematic proof-reading of our own translations (included in the price of the translation), Technical Translation also offers a proof-reading service for documents which have been translated elsewhere.
This service is separate from our translation service and is invoiced by the word or by the hour. Please contact us for a detailed quotation.
Sworn Translation
In many countries, a sworn translation (by a legal expert translator who is appointed by the Court) is required for official formalities. Technical Translation can provide such sworn translations both to private individuals and to companies. Please contact us for a quotation.

Web Site Design, Translation and Localization
The Internet has become the universal data base for companies and private individuals. It's a fantastic means for companies to make themselves known to prospective customers both in their own country and in other countries around the world. That's why Technical Translation established its Aftrans subsidiary.
It deals with translating and localizing web sites.
We do not only translate your website into the language you require, we also modify certain aspects of the translated text to ensure that a person reading the translated website in the country concerned feels that he or she is at home with the language and the nuances local to that country.
